Modern updated Tourist Information Centre

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ms Tokozile Xasa officially opened the Middelburg Tourist Information Centre (MTIC) on Friday, 18 November 2016 and said that she was impressed with the friendly open atmosphere of the upgraded MVIC.

MCCI’s aim with the renovation was to create a tourist-friendly, well stocked Information Centre that meets the Department of Tourism’s requirements of a well run Tourist Information Centre.  We added an Internet Access Point for tourist to give them quick information and sourced locally themed curios to promote our tourist attractions.  A small curio shop inside the Centre also sells locally manufactured crafts to the visitors.  Information about the local tourism industry and attractions are displayed in new brochure shelves.

It has been a long and sometimes trying time to ensure the success of the project, but with the commitment from the Office of the Minister, Middelburg Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) and our members, we were able to finish the project. As the beneficiary, MCCI’s initial involvement was limited to design requirements and to tolerate the dust and discomfort of a building project while we were continuing our day to day operations, but in the end, the DOT supported us, and we completed the renovation.

As a not for profit organization MCCI could not afford to implement our plans to upgrade our facility and services to the public, but with the commitment of the DOT we can all proudly say, “A job well done.”
