CSOS opened the Mpumalanga Office

Community Schemes Ombud Services (CSOS) opened their Mbombela Office on Thursday, 10 January 2024. The office will operate at Riverside Park, Mbombela.

The CSOS serves as the Ombud for all community schemes in South Africa. Its services include resolving disputes, ensuring the quality of governance documents for community schemes, and offering training and consumer education.

A Community Scheme refers to any arrangement where land and buildings are shared and responsibilities are shared among multiple parties. This includes sectional titles’ development schemes, share block companies, homeowner’s associations, retirement housing schemes, and housing cooperatives. Contact CSOS at info@csos.org.za.

MCCI welcomed the CSOS office in Mpumalanga, and trust that another satellite office will be established in the Highveld Region of Mpumalanga.

Blood, Sweat and Spectacles

Blood, Sweat and Spectacles

It was a hotly contested Amazing Race Saturday.  28th of October 2023 was a memorable day; the country was on tender hooks, because of the Rugby World Cup final that evening. Nevertheless, ten teams started their day competing in the Amazing Race 2023 Middelburg. They gave it their all, some their blood, some their tears and the deciding factor was spectacles.

At the start of the race, everyone was dressed to the nines, or rather in their rugby shirts, t-shirts or as branded teams. The energy was palpable and one or two team members looked like they were waiting in the starting blocks for the whistle.

The MCCI marshals held the envelopes ready and then Zelda blew the whistle for the race to start. Fortunately, no animals or small children were harmed in the race for the first clue. The teams scattered like rabbits to their vehicles, to be the first at clue number 1.

What fun it is to marshal this event. Some people could park like champions; others could not even read GPS coordinates to save their lives, and anyone who saw the teams at BUCO, no, that was the race, not crazies in the store. Brimis, your clue was perplexing and many stood in front of your gate looking around like zombies ready to attack. Water and fire were the challenges at Vivo Bingo and the region’s tourism stops.

Two teams were neck and neck to the end, and If Erica van Zyl and her team of JJ Engineering had not lost her glasses in the challenge at Alveston Manor, Nico Denner and his Gemecs team would not have won for the Amazing Race for the third time.

Everyone who took part, from the little ones to the more experience team members, everybody had fun. See you in September 2024 for our next Amazing Race.

Africa Durban Trade Indaba 2023

Africa Durban Trade Indaba 2023

From the 9th to the 11th of May 2023, Durban ICC was the host site for the African Trade Indaba. This spectacular event drew in people from all across the continent as well as international investors who were all looking for ways to showcase all the best parts of Africa.

This event provided a wonderful opportunity for all those in attendance to market themselves as well as their province or country. There were a lot of companies from all across Africa that were looking for ways to generate more interest in their country to help improve their business as well as their country’s economic growth from tourism revenue.

The Middelburg Info center managed to reach out to several of these companies and foster good relations with them in order to get brochures and pamphlets which we can use to showcase all the awe inspiring sights across our continent.

MCCI Golf Day Nkangala TVET Draws Winner

MCCI Golf Day Nkangala TVET Draws Winner

Mr. N.B Maphanga of Nkangala TVET College gave the lucky draw prize Mr. E. Matlala.

The prize was a Fully Funded Apprentice Recognition of Prior Learning Training for semi-skilled artisans who had worked for 3 or more years at a company without obtaining their trade test.  The TVET program speeds up students to take the trade test in just 3 months, instead of 3 years for a typical apprenticeship.

The MCCI Golf Day is the perfect place to highlight a specific service, as the above example shows.  Our next Golf Day is booked for 26 April 2026.

We rolled away another year

We rolled away another year

Middelburg Information Centre held its first Christmas Bowls Fun Day for members who wanted to have a fun day in the sun to end off 2022.

Friends and colleagues competed against each other with their lawn bowling skills. Laughter and groans could be heard around the field as the ball rolled the wrong way or your friend’s ball was knocked out of the way. Our Father Christmas announced the winners of the day and handout out gifts and chocolates. Harcourts Real Estate Agency is the 2022 Christmas Bowls Day Champions.

We enjoyed the braai, the sunshine, and the great camaraderie with everyone who attended. Thank you to the members for supporting our new event. We will host it again next year. Just look out for the invite in the press.

Export Awareness Seminar

Export Awareness Seminar
The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), in collaboration with the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) and the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDT), hosted its annual export awareness seminar in Middelburg on 16 September 2022.

MEGA presented the current projects they are working on and invited the business community to contact them to participate. The Department of Science and Technology explained how they can offer tax incentives to research and development companies. Another exciting offering from the Department of Small Business Development is the SheTrade ZA Hub, where women who want to export their products can get support.

DTIC has the EMIA Export Incentive Programme for export development, which provides marketing opportunities for businesses. This incentive helps with partial travel and exhibition costs subsidies if you want to exhibit at international trade fairs.

Let us say you already export South African products and need a non-preferential certificate of origin (COO). In this case, the Middelburg Chamber offers this service to local companies. With a COO, you have access to World Trade Organisation customs regulations between countries.

For more information on all export assistance, businesses can contact MEGA at azwi@mega.gov.za. For questions and requirements at COO, you can contact Christo Stemmet at admin@middelburginfo.com.
