Moeketsi Mpotu, President of MCCI, met with Eskom, the National Cleaner Production Centre, Steve Tshwete Municipality (STLM) and corporate members to discuss how to accelerate investment in the region.
Mpotu emphasised the need for a clear value proposition to attract investment in order for manufacturers to compete globally. MCCI needs to align strategies for investment and long-term sustainability, especially in relation to Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and industrial parks. It is important to clarify what opportunities exist, what incentives are available, what areas the STLM has identified for development and what conditions need to be met for the investment drive to become a reality.
One of the most important projects for operating a special economic zone is the establishment of a special purpose vehicle. How, what, when and who will be clarified after two one-day workshops in which our members will work together with Bernd Oellermann, the NCPC specialist for sustainable industrial development and eco-industrial parks.
Dr Dana Gampel, Executive Manager, Business Development at Eskom, said that the various stakeholders need to find a workable solution to the disconnect between them and the different points of view on how the Just Energy Transition should functional optimally.
An MCCI steering committee has been established and will meet soon to prepare for the planned workshop. Any member interested in participating is welcome to contact Anna-Marth Ott at ceo@middelburginfo.com.
