Small business owners often face unique challenges, and the journey can sometimes feel isolating. The SMME meeting provides an opportunity to connect with others who understand these difficulties and to access practical support and solutions tailored to the needs of small businesses. 

The Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry holds a monthly meeting of the SMMEs portfolio committee for MCCI SMME members. These meetings provide an opportunity to network with other business professionals, exchange ideas, and discuss effective strategies relevant to small businesses. It is important to note that the primary aim of the SMME meeting is not to offer business opportunities. 

During our August meeting, Angela Smith, representing Aldes Business Brokers, gave a presentation on the essential steps required to prepare your business, should you wish to sell it. During Smith’s presentation, she discussed significant topics such as due diligence, financial pitfalls, and the crucial matter of what to do with the staff.  Following the presentation, a lively debate ensued, highlighting how the interactions among members serve as the most effective method for cultivating relationships based on trust. 

A member requested information on how to deal with an Injury on Duty (IOD). Clinton Neyt, who represents Green Ticket Training Solutions, gave a detailed presentation on the topic. He emphasised how critical it is to have correct documentation and reporting when filing claims related to injuries or illnesses that occurred at work. It is essential that reports are submitted on time and that forms are filled out correctly.  Each person who attended the meeting received a hard copy of Neyt’s presentation and a complete set of forms and extra information regarding IOD.
